Sichuan province in southwestern China plans to build a total of 153 LNG refuelling stations in 2015-2018, with the first batch of 42 stations is to be completed by the end of 2015. All stations will be located at motorway service areas and require approval from the municipal or country authority responsible for clean energy vehicles.

Two new small-scale LNG facilities planned in Canada, one for bunkering
Nova Scotia LNG is planning to build two small LNG facilities in Canada with a total capacity of 0.18-0.26 MTPA. A 30,000-60,000 tpa plant and another 150,000-200,000 tpa project will be constructed, with the former targeting bunkering demand along the US and Canadian East Coast and the latter on diesel displacement markets in the Caribbean.

Korean port official highlights ‘exciting’ LNG bunkering project to ‘preempt the rapidly evolving maritime transport industry.’ Plans revealed for the expansion of Busan port includes developing an LNG bunkering facility by 2018.

US issues guidance on LNG barge design
The US Coast Guard’s Office of Design and Engineering Standards has released CG-ENG Policy Letter 02-15 to provide interim guidance on the design of LNG barges. Since US ports do not have LNG liquefaction and storage facilities yet, ships will have to rely on small-scale bunkering for the time being.
World’s first LNG-powered containership launched
General Dynamics NASSCO launched the Isla Bella, the world’s first LNG-powered containership from its San Diego-based shipyard. The 3,100TEU containership, part of a two-ship contract, was built for TOTE, a leading logistics and transportation company.
