EU unveils EUR 13.1 bn investment in transport, including LNG

European Commission unveiled on Monday a record €13.1 bn ($14.6 bn) investment plan in 276 transport projects selected under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), including small-scale LNG deployment plans or projects enhancing the navigability of the Danube River.

Two new small-scale LNG facilities planned in Canada, one for bunkering

Nova Scotia LNG is planning to build two small LNG facilities in Canada with a total capacity of 0.18-0.26 MTPA. A 30,000-60,000 tpa plant and another 150,000-200,000 tpa project will be constructed, with the former targeting bunkering demand along the US and Canadian East Coast and the latter on diesel displacement markets in the Caribbean.

Stena Bulk targeting small scale LNG market

Gothenburg-based shipping company Stena Bulk, owner of three LNG carriers, said it is interested in investing in the small scale LNG market. Stena Bulk is confident that LNG will have its role as a marine fuel in the future, “especially when/if  IMO’s Nox rules come into play”.

US issues guidance on LNG barge design

The US Coast Guard’s Office of Design and Engineering Standards has released CG-ENG Policy Letter 02-15 to provide interim guidance on the design of LNG barges. Since US ports do not have LNG liquefaction and storage facilities yet, ships will have to rely on small-scale bunkering for the time being.

GE and Energas collaborate on small-scale LNG in China

GE Oil & Gas and Dalian Energas Gas-System (Energas) have signed a strategic MoU to build LNG infrastructure in China. GE, through enCryo, a GE O&G and Maison joint venture in China, will build a small-scale LNG plant with a daily production capacity of 50,000 m3 in Xinjiang, and up to eight more similarly sized plants in the region over the next three years.
